Islamizing the taleem …… – 11(Steps for redefining education)

(The writing that follows is my dialogue through email with a group on the Topic: Islamizing the Taleem and Tarbiyah of our children. I am maintaining the email format for ease of understanding as well as for maintaining originality of this dialogue.)

Assalamu Alaikum,

What is your perception about the western secular education? I do not know how to get answer from my so quiet audience, and I have to read their thinking in Braille!!!

One from my audience asks: ‘Jazakallah khair for the discussion. I do not know where you will take the discussion to but I’m very eager to find out.’

This is your right and my intending approach is to explain the following step wise as mentioned below:

1) How does the education happen, or what is the process of education?
2) The importance of ‘Perception’ development in education. (Perception can also be called worldview, paradigm, thought structure, amal e Idrak, how we look at life and world around us)
3) The processes of perception development and tools for same.
4) What can be done to develop an education system from Islamic perspective?

I strongly believe that without having a good realization of the preceding or prior concept it is useless to talk about the later. Sisters and brothers if you ask me whether we can develop an education process from Islamic perspective, and how difficult it is? I will say very surely we can, and it is not much difficult. The main difficulty is in the creation of realizations. Alhamdulillah I can see the system quite clear and see it not at all out of our reach. Allah needs us to change what is in our hearts only then he changes our condition. Alhamdulillah many of you are well on their way as far as the realization is concerned. That is why you are home schooling your children.
Should we forgo the gigantic sadqa e jariah in becoming the predecessors/pioneers in launching the so much wanted movement for the educational change in ummah. Please do not just assume that many others are doing it, and that we have to be just expectators waiting for the eggs to hatch. As far as I can see things are not happening as they should. Most of these movements are just integrating Islam into the present educational structure, which is faulty at the roots. “If we hang a lot of mangoes on an apple tree it will not change the output of the tree. It is roots which governs the fruit and not the opposite.”

Allah knows the best.

Truly,
Br. Abid.
