Islamizing the taleem ….. – 27 (Educational perspective of perception/worldview)

(The writing that follows is my dialogue through email with a group on the Topic: Islamizing the Taleem and Tarbiyah of our children. I am maintaining the email format for ease of understanding as well as for maintaining originality of this dialogue.)

Assalamu Alaikum,

A skit may help you understand the relations between info feeding (present style of education) and distortion of historical factuality – how perceptions can be wrongly programmed. Please watch this short movie at the following link: . The title of this skit should be Daily Motion.

Some deductive questions:
A person having a perception/worldview/thought structure developed on the pure teachings of Qur’an about the life in this world and a person with a secular perception of life, will they have same reaction to any event? Will they think in the same way and react the same way? Can their behavior be same?

A person who loves and fears Allah subhana wa ta’alah and a person who does not believe in Him have the same action plan in this life?

We can see that it is perception or worldview of a person about this life, (rather about everything), which will decide how a person will behave under any circumstances. How does this perception develop? It can be his knowledge, his experiences, his experience of cause and effect, most importantly his awe for either the creator, or the sciences, or a culture, or a people, or anything. We are complete psychological beings and any and every knowledge or experience affects our personality. This knowledge and experience has to come through formal or informal education, training, and the environment. Thus I feel learning and events in the environment are two important factors which play major role in the development and modification of a person’s perception/worldview.

Considering the above, is it possible that we put our children through largely secular education, and exposing them to alien environments through media and literature – creating an awe of an alien culture, and we expect them to become Muslims with secure faith in Allah subhana wa ta’ala and practicing their faith as required by the Qur’an? I do not see that happening, and it will be quite contrary to logic. We will just be putting them in great conflicts, that I feel is happening at present.

So far I have been attempting to make my audience realize the importance of perception in human personality and the role of education in the development of perception. I request each reader of this e-mail to please respond whether they can realize the importance of perception development through education. You can just have to write a few words like It is clear, not yet clear, requires further explaining, I differ (with reasons for differing) . This will help me in my navigation towards my next target, which is how this perception is (or can be) developed through education?
