Islamizing the taleem ….. – 33 (Education – what’s wrong)

(The writing that follows is my dialogue through email with a group on the Topic: Islamizing the Taleem and Tarbiyah of our children. I am maintaining the email format for ease of understanding as well as for maintaining originality of this dialogue.)

Assalamu Alaikum,

Br Jawad, am still awaiting your response to my last e-mail. Please keep engaged so that I can feel if my arguments have satisfied you in your queries. This I request to the other audience as well. This is a topic not much traversed, not much investigated in the recent times from the Islamic perspective and we have to together find answer to what I have initiated in this group. I have high hopes from this group as this a group which is endeavoring to finding solution to the confusion that has been created by our following an alien approach to education which we can see is wrong to the foundations or roots. It has been developed on the assumptions that human is soulless, the Creator is totally ignored, no belief in the need for Divine guidance, no belief in the last Day of Judgment and all focus on the short life on this planet. Can we expect an education system with such foundations as ideal, or even suitable from our perspective.  It can only give a highly defective product. This, the west proudly calls a secular product.

Sisters and brothers, a Muslim is not only with Islamic knowledge but with a Islamic perception as well; with the disposition of a Muslim. For without this he can only speak of theory and cannot look into the depth of Islamic principles and develop systems from an Islamic perspective. And without systems no country or nation can be run. Do you agree with me?  The dominance and implementation of the rule of Allah subhana wa ta’ala should be the endeavor of each one of us. Allah does not need us or our efforts. It is we who need this for our success in the a’akhira. ‘Whatever good that a man does is for himself and whatever bad he does is for himself’. For Allah is Samad (self sufficient and self sustaining) it is we who are totally dependent. And this earthly sojourn is nothing but a test and a platform where each one of us has to perform to achieve success in the a’akhira.

Moving ahead with our discussions on perceptions I will like to introduce some terms and request each one of you to think on them, and will highly appreciate if you reflect with your understanding of these terms on this platform: paradigm, worldview, thought structure, amal e Idrak, perception, mind map, zehan sazi, cognitive process, and many such term which reflect the thought and action process. Can you visualize the relationship between these terms? Please do not hesitate to share your views. We are all into decoding what education really does?
