Islamizing the taleem ….. – 49 (Which perception do we carry contemporarily?)

3 Dec

(My dialogue through email with a group on the Topic: Islamizing the Taleem and Tarbiyah of our children)

(from a brother)
WalaykumAssalam Warehmatullah Brother,

I think our thoughts are aligned on the issue of tarbiyah of our children.

What I have noticed is today’s minds are shaped to take i.e. understand the truth of Quran in the light of Science which in my opinion is the exact reverse of what it should be. i.e. We muslims come to all subjects e.g. science via Quran and/or sahih hadith first.

Since as NLP trainer I work with perceptions all the time, my understanding is we have two tasks i.e. 1) Work on the present prevailing perception of parents / teachers and 2) Give children a solid foundation from which they can develop their perceptions based on Quran & Hadith.

My interest so far has been in ‘How’ to get where we need to be instead of ‘Why’ we are where we are. I think, your emails are adding to my perceptions as well.

(my response)
Assalamu Alaikum Br. Kamran,

Masha’Allah you are an NLP trainer and into the concept of perception, probably more deep than I am. I will appreciate if you could look at my writings on perception from the critical point of view and expand our discussions on perception.

One important thing for us all to realize is that slowly and steadily we have been influenced and engulfed in the western secular systems. The clear result being our developing same thought structure as that of western nations. Islam presents a totally different view of life as compared to the western secular approach to life. As you have indicated, we are living in the western dimension now which blurs the Islamic objectives of life for us. The issue is whether we can succeed with the present alien perception that we generally carry now. I can see that we cannot. This is what motivates me to take up this cause.

I am not claiming anything new. this was warned to us by many intellectuals of the past like Allama Iqbal, Leopald M. Asad, Syed Qutb, Maulana Moudoodi, and many others. Iqbal and Asad were very vocal about this. I believe unless we come out of the present dominating influence of the western thought structure we cannot understand and adopt Islam the way it should be. Though we may go on giving lip services to Islam but our reflex actions will always be commensurate with the perception that we carry contemporarily, which is very highly influenced by the western secular thought. Presently this is what I am trying to explicate and communicate to my audience.

I will appreciate if you could participate actively in these discussions.
