Islamizing the taleem ….. – 60 (Some educational deductions from Acikgenc’s worldview theory)

(My dialogue through email with a group on the Topic: Islamizing the Taleem and Tarbiyah of our children)

Assalamu Alaikum,

Earlier we were talking of worldview as explained by Dr. Acikgenc. The important points to note here are:

1)   Every human is having some knowledge which she/he possesses at birth. Known as priori knowledge. This knowledge has effect on the person’s worldview or perception. Qur’an says that all the souls were given the knowledge of its Rab. ‘Alastu bi Rabbikum’ – Am I not your Rab (Al Qur’an7:172). We also observe that even small children have value system ingrained. They have very strong ego, they do not like to be treated disrespectfully, they do not like to be cheated, they have different behavior with different persons in the family. Normally with infants and old people they show extra respect—which is amazing.

2)   Culture and environment automatically influences person’s worldview or perception. We can see that girls belonging to hijabed (wearing proper dress) mothers find it easy to adopt same. We observe very young girls trying to copy their mothers and feeling enthusiastic about wearing hijab/dopatta (head cover). My grand-daughter of two years does same.

3)   The other important factors influencing worldview or perception include formal/informal education and experiences, which keep on affecting worldview or perception at all ages.

4)   Each learning experience brings some modification in the worldview, as such it keeps on modifying to little or more extent. The worldview can be modified intentionally by intentional learning. So planning education in a manner to bring positive modification is very much possible.

Will appreciate questions from the audience.

Truly,
Abid.
