Islamizing the taleem and tarbiyah of our children – 2 (Correcting perspectives)

(The writing that follows is my dialogue through email ……)

Assalamu Alaikum,

Hope my last two e-mails were indicative of human’s standing in perspective of his creator. Do we stand anywhere? There is no comparison between Allah subhana wa ta’ala the Creator, the Rab and we the very tiny human beings. There is not, and cannot be, any comparison between the creator and us, or anything created. Everything is created except the Creator. Allah subhana wa ta’ala is infinite in power and intelligence, where as we are very finite. His created logic or the Qur’anic logic is the only perfected logic. Isn’t it logical? I developed this concept in the following manner in one of my presentations on Islamization of knowledge:

WHAT IS RATIONALITY?
1) RATIONALITY IS PERCEPTIONAL
2) CAN MAN’S KNOWLEDGE BE COMPARED TO GOD’S KNOWLEDGE?
3) DOES MAN KNOW EVERY THING?
4) HOW MUCH DOES A MAN KNOW?
5) IS MAN PERFECT?
6) IS IT RATIONAL TO CLAIM THAT MAN CAN COMPREHEND AND EXPLAIN EVERYTHING?
7) SO WHAT IS MORE RATIONAL: ‘To Trust in man’s knowledge or God’s?’

The correct concept of tawheed is the first building block of any cognitive paradigm building process, or in other words, any map of mind that we want to develop. For with a wrong paradigm in this respect will surely lead a human to any direction other than correct. Any concept developed defying the correct concept of Tawheed, will be misleading as far as the correct goal/objective of life is concerned. So we should be very clear what our objective of life is, and in doing so we should realize the status or role of education is preparing us for the achievement of this goal or objective. And more important so, to realize whether an educational structure developed on secular roots, for secular purposes, can in any way, develop our thinking structure or thinking style correctly.

We may proceed on a very picturesque road, but if it is leading us to the wrong destination it will never serve our purpose.

An education system developed on the wrong assumptions and sprouting from the wrong roots will be full of misleadings, and may have hidden traps for us as Muslims. I hope we realize this. The theory of some of this and some of that doesn’t hold logically. And Insha’Allah we will discuss on this later.

Present dilemma is, we ourselves are more or less the product of this alien western education and cannot see these traps unless we go to some depth of educational processes and compare it with the requirement of education from the natures perspective. Some of the contemporary intellectuals have taken up this issue. They are not among Muslims only but among western educationists who have been able to point out the defects and conspiracies in the contemporary western secular education system.

With usual request for your participation in these discussions.

Truly,
Abid
